Tasks that hold the whole piece of work
A Taskeni task carries everything the work needs: subtasks, checklists, blockers, custom fields, files, and the conversation. All of it is on every plan, Free included.
Subtasks
Split a task into smaller tasks, each with its own owner and due date.
Blocked-by links
Mark which task is waiting on which, and see both sides from either task.
Checklists
Several named checklists per task, with progress on the card.
Custom fields
Text, number, date, URL, select, and checkbox fields per board.
Break work down without losing the thread
Add subtasks from inside a task. Each subtask is a real task with its own key, assignee, and due date, and it stays grouped under its parent instead of cluttering the board. For smaller steps, use checklists: give each one a name (QA, Copy, Handoff) and tick items off as you go.
- Subtasks and checklists are both included in task templates, so repeat work starts fully set up.
- With AI helpers on, **Suggest steps** proposes three to eight concrete steps you can add as checklist items or subtasks. Nothing is added until you pick them.
Dependencies you can see
Mark a task as blocked by another task on the same board. The task shows what it's waiting on and whether that work is open or done, and the blocking task lists what it's holding up. Standups get shorter when the waiting work is written down.
Custom fields for the details your team tracks
Each board can define its own fields: text, number, date, URL, select, or checkbox. Use them for a client name, a budget, a channel, a story-point estimate, or a link to the design file. Custom fields appear in Table view, carry over in CSV export, and can be added to a board's request form.
The conversation stays on the task
Comments support Markdown and @mentions, and the mention picker only offers people who can see the board. Paste a screenshot to attach it, drop files anywhere on the task, and pin feedback to an exact spot on an image: each pin becomes a numbered comment that can be resolved.
- Task keys like TSK-12 link automatically in comments and descriptions.
- Move or copy a task to another board without retyping it.
- Deleted tasks go to Trash for 30 days, and Undo (⌘Z) reverses most changes.
Common questions
Are subtasks and dependencies on the Free plan?
Yes. Subtasks, blocked-by links, checklists, and custom fields are on every plan. See pricing.
Can a task be blocked by a task on another board?
Not at the moment. Blocked-by links connect tasks on the same board.
What types of custom fields are there?
Text, number, date, URL, select (a list of options), and checkbox. Fields belong to a board, so each board can track what matters to it.
Can I save a task as a template?
Yes. Open the task menu and choose Save as template. The template keeps the title, description, priority, labels, checklists, subtasks, estimate, and custom field values.
Can I bring my Trello cards over?
Yes. Import from Trello (in Settings → Data, during onboarding, or on the Boards page) reads a Trello board's JSON export, one board at a time, and brings in its lists, cards, checklists, labels, and due dates. Attachments and comments stay in Trello. From any other tool, export a CSV and import it into a board. See Taskeni vs Trello.
