Taskeni vs Asana
Taskeni is a lighter alternative to Asana for teams of 3 to 50 who want timelines, dependencies, and time tracking without moving up a plan. Asana goes further on portfolios, goals, and enterprise controls.
Where each one fits.
Choose Taskeni when
- Your team is more than two people and you want to start free (Asana's free Personal plan is for 2 users)
- You want Timeline, custom fields, and dependencies without a Starter upgrade
- You track time against estimates and don't want to move up to Asana Advanced for it
- You'd rather not plan seat purchases in increments
- You want an MCP server, REST API, and webhooks on the free plan
Asana may suit you when
- You manage portfolios, company goals, and resource capacity across many projects
- You need approvals and proofing, forms with branching, or a critical path
- Your IT team needs SAML, audit logs, data residency, or a vendor with SOC 2 Type II
- You connect project data to Salesforce, Tableau, or Power BI
- You want ready-made AI agents (AI Teammates) working inside your projects
- You need native iOS and Android apps today
What stays the same
Projects (boards in Taskeni) with list, board, and calendar views, sections or lists, assignees, due dates, subtasks, comments with @mentions, attachments, and a personal My tasks page.

How to move from Asana to Taskeni
- 01
Create your workspace and boards
Sign up and add one board for each Asana project you still use. Recreate its sections as lists, and add the labels and custom fields you rely on. Taskeni doesn't connect to Asana directly, so this part is by hand.
- 02
Invite the team
Invite teammates by email before you import, so assignees can be matched. Add clients and contractors as guests to the boards they need.
- 03
Bring open tasks over with CSV
Export a project from Asana as CSV, then use Import CSV on the matching Taskeni board. Taskeni matches columns by name: Title (or Name or Task), List (or Status), Assignee or Assignee email, Start date, Due date, Labels (or Tags), Priority, and Description (or Notes). Rename a column to List if you want tasks placed in the right list. You see what will be skipped before you confirm.
- 04
Rebuild the rest
Add blocked-by links, estimates, and recurring schedules on the tasks that need them. Comments, attachments, and subtasks don't come across in a CSV, so copy over only what's still active.
- 05
Keep Asana as your archive
Leave finished projects in Asana for reference until you no longer need them.
Common questions
Is Taskeni a good Asana alternative?
For teams of 3 to 50 who mostly need boards, timelines, dependencies, and time tracking, yes, and those are on Taskeni's free plan. If you rely on portfolios, goals, approvals, proofing, or enterprise security controls, Asana is the stronger fit.
Can I import from Asana?
Not directly. Export each Asana project as CSV and use Import CSV on a Taskeni board. Titles, lists, assignees, dates, labels, priority, and descriptions can come across when the column names match; comments, attachments, and subtasks don't.
How much does Asana cost compared to Taskeni?
Asana Starter is $10.99 and Advanced is $24.99 per user/month billed yearly, and its free plan is for 2 users. Taskeni is free for up to 10 members with every view, custom fields, dependencies, and time tracking. Taskeni Pro ($6 per member/month billed yearly) adds automations, reports, and client share links, and comes with a 14-day free trial. See pricing.
Can I get my data back out of Taskeni later?
Yes. You can export tasks to CSV from a board or the whole workspace, and export workspace and personal data at any time from settings.
How does AI compare?
Asana's paid plans include a small number of AI requests per user each month and charge per request after that. Taskeni's AI helpers are off until a workspace owner turns them on, and use metered credits: 100 per workspace a month on Free, more on paid plans. See AI.
