Taskeni vs Basecamp

Taskeni vs Basecamp

Basecamp keeps a project's messages, chat, to-dos, files, and schedule in one calm place at a flat price. Taskeni goes deeper on the tasks themselves: views, fields, dependencies, estimates, and reports.

The short version

Where each one fits.

Choose Taskeni when

  • Your work lives in tasks that need views: Table, Timeline, and Calendar over the same board
  • You want custom fields, blocked-by links, and estimates on tasks
  • You track time on every plan, not only from Basecamp Pro ($99 a month) up
  • You have more than one active project and want to start free (Basecamp Free is one project)
  • You want optional AI helpers inside the app, alongside an MCP server

Basecamp may suit you when

  • You want a flat monthly price with no per-user fees: for a large team, Basecamp Studio ($59 a month for 10 projects) can cost less than per-member pricing
  • Projects need message boards, group chat, docs, and automatic check-ins next to the to-dos
  • You work with many clients and want them inside the project
  • You'd rather not have built-in AI and prefer to bring your own assistant
  • You need native apps on every platform today

What stays the same

Projects (boards in Taskeni) with to-dos and subtasks, a Kanban board, calendars, files, comments, @mentions, clients as guests, reports, two-step sign-in, and an MCP server for AI assistants.

How to move from Basecamp to Taskeni

  1. 01

Create a board per active project

Sign up and add one board for each Basecamp project you're still working in. Turn to-do lists or Card Table columns into lists. Taskeni doesn't connect to Basecamp, so this part is by hand.

  2. 02

    Invite the team and clients

Invite teammates by email. Add clients as guests to their boards, or on Pro, send them a read-only share link instead.

  3. 03

    Move the open to-dos

Add open to-dos as tasks with their assignees and due dates. If you have them in a spreadsheet, Import CSV on a board matches columns by name: Title, List, Assignee, Start date, Due date, Labels, Priority, and Description.

  4. 04

    Decide where conversation lives

Keep discussions on the tasks they're about, and connect Slack for anything wider. Leave finished projects and message history in Basecamp as your archive.

Common questions

Is Taskeni a good Basecamp alternative?

If your team needs more from its tasks, such as Table and Timeline views, custom fields, dependencies, and time tracking, yes. If you value message boards, chat, and check-ins in each project and a flat price for a large group, Basecamp suits that better.

Can I import from Basecamp?

Not automatically. Recreate your active projects as boards and move the open to-dos. If you can get to-dos into a spreadsheet, Taskeni's CSV import adds them to a board in one step.

How much does Basecamp cost compared to Taskeni?

Basecamp charges a flat monthly price by active projects: $25 for 3, $59 for 10, $99 for 25, and $299 for unlimited, with no per-user fees. Taskeni is free for up to 10 members; Pro is $6 per member/month billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial. For a large team, Basecamp's flat price can be lower; for a small team with many projects, Taskeni can be. See pricing.

Does Taskeni have built-in AI?

Yes, optional AI helpers using Google Gemini, off until a workspace owner turns them on and metered in credits. Basecamp has no built-in AI and connects to the assistant you already use; Taskeni also has an MCP server for that. See AI.
