Taskeni vs Linear
Linear is built for software teams: issues, cycles, triage, and code review in one fast tool. Taskeni is for mixed teams where developers, designers, and marketers share the same boards.
Where each one fits.
Choose Taskeni when
- Designers and marketers work on the same boards as developers and need it to feel familiar to them
- You track hours against estimates (Linear estimates effort in points; time tracking comes from integrations)
- You plan content and launches on a calendar and a task-level timeline, and share an iCal feed
- You collect requests through forms and email and want them on a board
- You want guests on the free plan (Linear guests are on Business)
Linear may suit you when
- Your team is mostly engineers and lives in issues, cycles, triage, and SLAs
- You want deep code workflows: Diffs, guided reviews, and coding agents that open pull requests
- You want unlimited members on the free plan (Linear Free has a 250-issue limit; Taskeni Free is up to 10 members)
- You plan across projects and initiatives with Insights and dashboards (Business)
- You work from the keyboard all day and value Linear's speed
- You need native iOS and Android apps today
What stays the same
Board and list layouts, statuses you define, priorities, labels, sub-tasks, recurring work, Markdown descriptions, a command menu, GitHub pull request links, Slack, and an MCP server for AI assistants.

How to move from Linear to Taskeni
- 01
Set up boards for each team
Sign up and add a board for each Linear team or project you're moving. Recreate its workflow statuses as lists and its labels. Taskeni doesn't connect to Linear directly, so this part is by hand.
- 02
Invite the team
Invite teammates by email before importing so assignees can be matched, and add contractors as guests on the boards they need.
- 03
Bring open issues over with CSV
In Linear, export a CSV from an issue view or project (members can export up to 250 issues at a time). Use Import CSV on the matching Taskeni board. Taskeni matches columns by name: Title, Status (to a list with the same name), Assignee or Assignee email, Start date, Due date, Labels, Priority, and Description. You see what will be skipped before you confirm.
- 04
Connect GitHub and Slack
Link pull requests to tasks with the GitHub integration and send board updates to Slack. Then add estimates and blocked-by links where you need them.
Common questions
Is Taskeni a good Linear alternative?
For a mixed team where developers share boards with designers and marketers, yes: Taskeni adds time tracking, a calendar, request forms, and a task timeline that non-engineers find familiar. For an engineering team that wants cycles, triage, SLAs, and code review in one tool, Linear is the stronger choice.
Can I import from Linear?
Not directly. Export issues from Linear as CSV and use Import CSV on a Taskeni board. Titles, status, assignees, dates, labels, priority, and descriptions come across when the column names match; comments and attachments stay in Linear.
How much does Linear cost compared to Taskeni?
Linear Basic is $10 and Business is $16 per user/month billed yearly, and its free plan allows 250 issues. Taskeni is free for up to 10 members with unlimited tasks; Pro is $6 per member/month billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial, and Business is $12. See pricing.
Does Taskeni have something like Linear's command menu?
⌘K opens search from anywhere, and ⌘J opens the assistant when AI helpers are on. The assistant proposes changes like moving, assigning, or rescheduling tasks, and nothing changes until you click Apply.
Can AI coding tools work with Taskeni?
Yes. Taskeni has an MCP server for AI assistants and a REST API with personal tokens, on every plan. See MCP.
