Tasks

Quick add syntax

Quick add turns one line like "Review launch email tomorrow 3pm @lena #email !high" into a task with the assignee, label, priority, and due date already set.

  1. Press Q anywhere, click Add a task in the top bar, or choose Create task… in the command palette.
  2. Type the task. Words Taskeni recognizes turn into chips under the field, and the final title shows below them.
  3. Click a chip if you want that word kept as plain text instead.
  4. Check the Board and List, then click Create task or press ⌘Enter.

People, labels, and priority

  • @lena: assigns Lena. Use a first name, a full name without spaces, or the start of their email. Only people who can see the board are matched.
  • #bug: adds the board's "bug" label. For a label with spaces, use quotes: #"Needs review".
  • !urgent, !high, !medium (or !med), !low: sets the priority. !1 to !4 and p1 to p4 work too, with 1 as urgent.

Dates

  • today, tomorrow (or tmrw), tonight (today at 6 PM)
  • A weekday, like friday or fri: the next one after today
  • this friday (this week, including today) and next friday (Friday of next week)
  • next week (next Monday) and next month (the 1st of next month)
  • in 3 days, in two weeks, in a month
  • eow or end of week (Friday), eom or end of month
  • oct 20, 20 oct, 20th of october, 10/20, or 2026-10-20

You can put on, by, or due in front of a date: "Send invoice due friday".

Times

  • 3pm, 3:30pm, 3 pm, 15:00, noon, midnight
  • at or by in front works too: "Call Sam at 4pm".

Repeats

  • daily or every day
  • weekdays or every weekday
  • weekly, every week, every monday, or every mon and thu
  • monthly, every month, or monthly on the 15th

After the task is created, the recurring schedule opens so you can check it. See Recurring tasks.

Create many tasks at once

  1. Paste several lines into quick add. Bullets, numbers, and checkboxes at the start of lines are removed.
  2. Click One task per line. Each line is read with the same syntax.
  3. Review the list, edit or untick anything you don't want, and click Create (the button shows how many tasks).

When AI helpers are on, you can click Find action items with AI instead to pull tasks out of meeting notes. Nothing is created until you confirm. See Use the AI helpers.

Good to know

  • Anything Taskeni isn't sure about stays in the title. If two people share a name, @ assigns nobody rather than guessing.
  • sun and sat only count as days after words like "on", "by", or "next", so "sat down with design" stays as text.
  • Labels come from the board you've picked, so switching boards re-reads the line.
  • You can paste up to 50 lines at a time.
