Roles
Every person in a workspace has one role. Roles decide who can manage people and settings, and which boards someone can see.
The four roles
- Owner: one per workspace. Can do everything an admin can, and is the only one who can transfer ownership or delete the workspace.
- Admin: manages members, roles, and invitations; changes workspace settings like the name, picture, time zone, and default board visibility; turns AI helpers on or off; and connects Slack, GitHub, and webhooks.
- Member: creates boards and works on every board open to the workspace, plus private boards they've been added to. Can view workspace settings but not change them.
- Guest: sees only the boards they've been added to. Can't create boards, change who can see a board, or set up automations, request forms, or a board's email address.
Change someone's role
- Click Members in the sidebar.
- Find the person and choose a new role from their role menu: Admin, Member, or Guest.
Remove someone
- On the Members page, open the person's menu (the … button).
- Choose Remove from workspace, then Remove member.
They lose access to every board in the workspace. Tasks they were assigned to stay, without them as an assignee.
Good to know
- Only owners and admins can change roles or remove people.
- The owner can't be removed and can't leave. Transfer ownership first. See Manage workspaces.
- Guests don't count toward the Free plan's 10-member limit. Free allows 3 guests per board.
- Anyone except the owner can leave a workspace from their own menu on the Members page, or from Settings → This workspace → Leave workspace.
