Board automations
Automations handle the small, repeated steps on a board, such as assigning a reviewer or raising the priority of overdue work.
- Open the board settings menu (the sliders button in the board header) → Automations.
- Start from one of the Recipes, or click New rule.
- Give the rule a name.
- Under When, choose what starts it:
- A task moves to a list
- A task is created in a list
- A label is added
- A task is completed
- Its checklist is finished
- The due date passes
- Under Then, choose an action: Assign, Unassign, Add label, Remove label, Set priority, Set due date (a number of days from now), Move to list, Mark done, Post a comment, or Notify.
- Click Add an action for up to three actions per rule.
- Click Save rule.
Manage rules
- Use the switch next to a rule to turn it on or off.
- Click Edit to change it, or the trash button to delete it.
- Each rule shows how many times it has run, and the error if its last run failed.
Good to know
- Automations are included on Pro and Business. On Free, rules can't be saved or turned on. See Plans and limits.
- Rules run right after the change, and every run is logged in the task's activity.
- Rules never trigger each other, so one rule can't set off a chain.
- "The due date passes" is checked once an hour.
- A rule acts as the person who created it. If that person leaves the workspace, the rule stops working.
- A board can have up to 50 rules. Guests can't change automations.
